Best beginner method for producing MJ in big dig pack
The method i usually use for beginning big-dig is to do a quick mining stint and get some iron and redstone. From here I build a few Stirling engines and hook these up to a few of the pipes that allow a current to be carried and then this can be hooked up to any other devices you want fairly easily, by just extending the piping.

The max size a quarry can be is 64x64. Right click one of your landmarks and see if a red beam appears. If so, check and see how far that red beam goes and place a landmark ON the block it ends on. Repeat for the other two sides then place the quarry on one of the four corners. Quarry must be touching a landmark or it will not work.

A few medium or high voltage solar panels will easily run one quarry and process all the ore.
